Türkiye’s annual judicial recess (adli tatil) ran from 20 July to 31 August 2026. The new judicial year opened on Tuesday, 1 September 2026. Courts, public prosecutors’ offices and court registries have returned to their ordinary working schedule.
RT-Union informs colleagues, partners and clients: ordinary hearings have resumed and procedural time limits are running in full. If you have a case before a Turkish court, an enforcement file or a matter with the prosecution service, this is the moment to check hearing dates and filing deadlines.
What changed on 1 September
Courthouses were not closed during the recess. Duty benches continued to hear urgent matters: detention cases, maintenance and custody, interim injunctions and attachments, bankruptcy and concordat, and other applications that cannot wait. Most other hearings were adjourned.
From 1 September:
- ordinary hearings have restarted;
- registries accept filings on a normal timetable;
- regional courts of appeal and the Court of Cassation are again examining the full range of files;
- enforcement offices and notaries operate without recess restrictions.
Deadlines that still matter this week
If a civil or administrative time limit would have expired during the recess, it is automatically extended by seven days from the end of the recess. For 2026 that date is Monday, 7 September.
In criminal proceedings the extension is three days. The relevant cut-off is 3 September 2026.
Limitation periods, certain enforcement deadlines under the Enforcement and Bankruptcy Code and some special statutory periods are not extended. A miscalculation can result in loss of the right to sue or to appeal.
What we recommend to clients and colleagues
- Confirm the next hearing and any scheduled appearance.
- Check whether a claim, defence, appeal or objection period falls in these first days of September.
- Complete missing translations, powers of attorney and exhibits — registries are again operating at full capacity.
- Do not postpone urgent applications (asset freezing, travel bans, maintenance). Such filings were accepted during the recess and are now processed more quickly.
